The role: HR Generalist, Americas

The base salary range for this position is  $90,000 - $110,000  per year, depending on experience, skills, qualifications, and location. This range represents our good faith estimate of the compensation for this role at the time of posting.

Based New York, Manhattan HYBRID  

Our International HR team plays a vital role in creating a fair, supportive and consistent colleague experience across British Airways. As an HR Generalist supporting the Americas, you’ll work closely with line managers across the region, providing practical guidance on employee relations, policy and wider people matters.

This is a varied, hands-on role where you’ll balance employment legislation and collective bargaining agreements with the needs of our colleagues and the business. You’ll have the opportunity to influence decisions, improve the employee lifecycle and contribute to HR projects across different jurisdictions.

What you’ll do:

  • Partner with line managers across the Americas to resolve HR and employee relations matters, ensuring a fair and consistent approach.
  • Coach managers on employee relations, policy application, performance management, communication and feedback.
  • Provide clear, practical guidance on compensation principles, colleague development and issue prevention.
  • Ensure compliance with collective bargaining agreements and applicable federal, state and provincial employment legislation.
  • Conduct ad hoc Dignity at Work and EEOC investigations.
  • Manage employee relations cases and provide practical solutions based on employment law, policy and the circumstances of each case.
  • Support compliance initiatives, including wage and hour requirements, timekeeping and FLSA.
  • Develop and coordinate policies and processes in line with the International Industrial Relations Strategy.
  • Keep HR policies, supporting documentation and manager guidance accurate and up to date.
  • Design new policies and contribute to business-critical HR projects, including initiatives spanning multiple jurisdictions.
  • Build trusted relationships with managers through sound judgement, responsiveness and credible advice.
  • Maintain electronic employee records within ADP.
  • Respond promptly to colleague queries relating to policies, procedures, employment guidelines and collective bargaining agreements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement projects and wider International HR and People team initiatives.

What you’ll bring to British Airways:

You bring a strong understanding of employee relations, case management and the practical application of employment law. As someone comfortable using evidence and insight to understand problems, you will challenge thinking and develop solutions that support better business decisions. Your experience will be evident through the pragmatic advice you provide, adapting your approach to the situation while remaining consistent with our policies, values and people strategy.

Confident working with digital tools, HR systems and data, you also bring attention to detail, something required when needed to manage a varied caseload in a fast-paced environment. Collaborative and commercially aware, you build credibility quickly and have the professional courage to speak up, influence others and challenge constructively when it is the right thing to do. Above all, you are proactive, inquisitive, resilient and committed to creating a positive experience for our colleagues.

Your experience:

  • 5+ years’ experience working as a HR Generalist in a multi-unit, multi-state environment
  • Experience working with HR systems, policies and/or processes.
  • Strong knowledge of employee relations and employment law, with the ability to interpret and apply these in practice.
  • Strong experience with Unions, CBAs and legal agreements
  • Experience managing multiple cases or priorities of varying complexity.
  • Confidence advising and coaching line managers on people-related matters.
  • Experience supporting HR activity across International jurisdictions.
  • SHRM qualified
