A career without limits

As the nation’s flag carrier, we take great pride in connecting Britain with the world and the world with Britain.

It’s something we’ve been doing for over 100 years, ever since we launched the world’s first international scheduled air service between London and Paris.

This originality has been in our blood since day one. It’s the spirit we share with the people that fly with us, our partners, and our colleagues.

So, whether you are a reassuring voice on the end of a phone, a smile at the door, under a wing keeping the turbines spinning or landing us gently in far-flung places, a job at British Airways is yours to make.

We know great things can happen when you’re inspired to think big and bring your ambition to work every day, which is why, at British Airways the sky is never the limit.

The role: Learning Experience Lead

People Directorate | Based either Manchester or Newcastle

Great learning doesn’t start with a course. It starts with understanding what people and the business really need, then finding the right way to make a difference.

We’re looking for Learning Experience Lead based in either Manchester or Newcastle to help us create and continually improve learning experiences that build capability and make a meaningful impact for our colleagues and the business.

Working as part of the Global Learning Academy (GLA), you’ll be involved across the learning lifecycle, from discovery and understanding the need, through to design, development, implementation and ongoing improvement. You’ll work closely with stakeholders, subject matter experts, delivery teams and colleagues across the GLA to turn business needs into high-quality learning solutions that are engaging, effective and fit for purpose.

This is much more than creating great content. You’ll ask the right questions, challenge thinking when needed, use insight and evidence to shape your recommendations and make thoughtful choices about the learning experience. And once learning is live, you’ll continue to look at how it’s performing and where it could be even better.

It’s an exciting opportunity to combine creativity, curiosity and learning expertise to create experiences that help our colleagues perform at their best.

What you’ll be doing

  • Explore learning needs through discovery and analysis, helping establish clear objectives, outcomes and measures of success.
  • Lead and contribute to the design, development and implementation of engaging learning solutions across different formats.
  • Turn learner needs, business priorities and insight into clear learning recommendations.
  • Own, manage and continuously improve existing learning within a specified portfolio, ensuring it remains accurate, relevant, effective and fit for purpose.
  • Use evaluation, learner feedback, business insight and performance measures to understand what’s working and where we can improve.
  • Build strong partnerships with stakeholders and subject matter experts, bringing people together to create the right learning solution.
  • Work collaboratively across the GLA, sharing ideas and content, reducing duplication and helping create greater consistency in the learning experience.
  • Champion great learning practice, using technology, media and new approaches where they can improve the learner experience and business impact.
  • Ensure learning meets the right quality, brand, governance, regulatory and compliance requirements.

About you

You’ll be passionate about learning and genuinely curious about what helps people build their skills, knowledge and confidence.

You’ll have experience across learning, development and design, with an understanding of how to take a learning need from initial discovery through to an effective solution. You’ll be comfortable working across different learning styles and approaches, and able to balance creativity with quality, evidence and measurable outcomes.

You’ll also be a natural collaborator. Someone who enjoys working with stakeholders and subject matter experts, can build trust quickly and has the professional courage to ask questions or challenge an approach when there may be a simpler or more effective way to achieve the outcome.

You’ll be organised and comfortable managing projects and priorities within timelines and budgets in a fast-paced environment. You’ll use insight and data to support your decisions and be interested in how different formats and approaches including technology, can help us create better learning experiences.

Above all, you’ll care about creating learning that makes a difference, not simply delivering learning for learning’s sake.

Why join us?

This is an opportunity to play a hands-on role in shaping learning experiences for colleagues across BA.

You’ll work with people from across the business, tackle a wide variety of learning challenges and have the opportunity to influence what great learning looks like, from the first conversation about a need through to the experience our colleagues ultimately receive.

You’ll have space to bring your ideas, creativity and expertise, while being part of a team that cares about quality, collaboration and continually making learning better.

If you’re curious about people, passionate about great learning and excited by the challenge of turning business needs into experiences that make a real difference, we’d love to hear from you.

Please note: Travel between Newcastle/Manchester/London (HQ and Global Learning Academy at LHR) is required.

What we offer:

We believe that all the people who work with us should feel valued for the part they play. It’s one of the reasons our rewards go far beyond a competitive salary.

From the day you join us, you’ll get access to brilliant staff travel benefits including unlimited basic and premium standby tickets on British Airways flights. You’ll also receive up to 30 discounted ‘Hotline’ airfares per year for yourself, friends, and family.

At British Airways you’ll have the chance to take on new challenges and move forward in a way that feels right for you. We encourage all those who work for us to consider opportunities right across our business to help you develop and progress.

We never stand still, and we don’t expect our people to either.

Inclusion & Diversity

At British Airways we all have a part to play in creating an inclusive place to work. Diverse representation among our people is really important to us and we recognise that all our colleagues are uniquely different and bring their own originality, creativity and identity to work.

Inclusion and diversity is a key driver of innovation and we’re committed to creating a culture where everyone feels that they can be themselves. We’re looking for people from all backgrounds and cultures to join us and be a part of our journey to become a Better BA as we continue to connect Britain with the world and the world with Britain.
