The role: New Aircraft Build and Delivery Manager
“The New Aircraft Build and Delivery Manager is responsible for technical acceptance and delivery of new aircraft to British Airways, from the Airbus and Boeing production sites in Hamburg, Toulouse, South Carolina and Everett. The role ensures that aircraft purchased for British Airways are built in accordance with the purchase agreement, to the agreed specification, quality and in compliance with CAA requirements.
The successful candidate will be expected to define, project manage and administer the inspection programme, build and delivery plan and delivery support team to ensure on-time delivery. To identify and negotiate commercial settlements and warranty extensions as appropriate to maximise financial compensation opportunities. The New Aircraft Build and Delivery Manager is also responsible for providing a clear focus and direction to deliver technical, safety, quality and cost performance targets along with continuous improvement of aircraft delivery activities through engineering processes and procedures.
Note: This role will involve relocating to the US, France or Germany for several months or even years at a time. Candidates must not be restricted from obtaining the right to live and work in any of these countries.”
What you’ll do:
- Defines, reviews, manages and actions the aircraft build inspection programme.
- Audits Airbus and Boeing quality to ensure BA build standards are met and initiates appropriate actions to achieve them where they are found lacking.
- Ensures the aircraft is built to the agreed specification.
- Identifies and initiates necessary actions to reduce repetitive build defects.
- Reviews in service defects and where applicable initiates additional build and delivery inspections to reduce them.
- Technically accepts the aircraft for purchase by British Airways.
- Identifies technical issues and negotiates acceptance criteria for aircraft purchase including appropriate contractual commitments.
- Provides an on-site focal point for Airbus and Boeing in relation to all matters concerning British Airways.
- Provides on-site specialist technical support as required with due regard for safety, technical, regulatory and commercial requirements.
- Identifies and supports simplification and process improvement initiatives.
- Monitors technical performance and develops corrective actions, evaluates industry data.
- Evaluates manufacturers data for Fleet inclusion.
- Optimises cost of ownership, including budget
- Liaising with IAG Group Investment to ensure adequate commitments are in place post delivery

- Detailed knowledge of the safety, quality and warranty management system
- Detailed knowledge of regulatory requirements and maintenance programmes
- Detailed knowledge of company processes and procedures applicable to the work environment and people management
- Detailed knowledge of at least one aircraft type
- Detailed knowledge of product design or materials as appropriate
Desirable Qualifications:
- Formal business-related qualification to HNC / HND or equivalent experience.
