At British Airways, our engineers don't just maintain aircraft. They build careers that can span generations.
This year, seven members of our Engineering team celebrated an incredible milestone: more than 50 years of service with British Airways and our predecessor airlines.
The aviation industry has transformed dramatically over the past 50 years, and our engineers’ teams have developed new skills, embraced new technologies to help shape this evolution.
Together, they represent a remarkable 355 years of aviation expertise.
Half a century of innovation
Among them is Avionic Technician Nick Janes, who recently celebrated 55 years with the airline.
During his career, Nick has worked on some of aviation's most iconic aircraft, from the Viscount and BAC 1-11 to the Boeing 747 and beyond. Yet when asked what has kept him here for more than five decades, his answer wasn't working on our fleet.
"One reason I've stayed for 55 years is the people. When you work with great people it's hard to leave...No matter how hard it seems, keep going and it will be worth it in the end. This can be a very rewarding and worthwhile career."
That commitment to learning, development and growth remains at the heart of our Engineering teams today.

For fellow engineer Stephen Knight, one of the most rewarding parts of his career has been the friendships and camaraderie built over the years.
"While aircraft connect places, it is people who make the journey worthwhile."
